How to get mildew smell out of towels?
Wet towels, used bath towels, and if not washed thoroughly for a long time have a disgusting smell. This smell is usually caused by mildew and is difficult to eliminate. Here are a few quick ways to get rid of musty odors.
1 Put the towel in the washing machine first, using the hottest water possible. Add a tablespoon or two of white vinegar. Do not add detergent, fabric softener, or anything else at this time. Then turn the washing machine.
2 Leave the towel in the washing machine and wash it again as usual with laundry soap or baking soda. Or use the hottest water you can. Don’t use fabric softener or something.
3 Set the dryer to high heat to dry the towels. When you take out the towel, it should be completely dry. If not, put it back in the desiccant to continue drying, or immediately take it to a sunny place outside to dry.
4 Put the towel in the washing machine and add an appropriate amount of detergent.
5 Use the hottest water possible. Do not add fabric softener or anything.
6 Optimistic about the rinsing cycle, pour a cup of ammonia during the period, either clear or with foam.
7 Wait until the washing machine stops spinning. Immediately remove the towel and set the dryer to normal mode to dry the towel completely. Or take it out to dry on a sunny day.
8 After it’s dry, take a towel and smell it. If the musty smell is not completely removed, soak the towel overnight.
9 Repeat until there is no musty smell at the end.
Precautions
Do not use bleach and ammonia at the same time when washing clothes, as the mixture of the two can produce harmful fumes.
